What is a themed weather experience?
A themed weather experience interprets real weather conditions through a particular visual world rather than requiring the imagery to represent the user's actual physical location.
WeatherFlo can use themes to create different visual interpretations of weather while the underlying weather information remains real.
Location and Theme aren't the same thing

What could this weather feel like in this visual world?
A Point of Interest is where the experience belongs. A theme is the visual world through which weather is interpreted. They can be used separately, and they can also be designed to work together as separate layers.
What could a Theme look like?
WeatherFlo can be designed around different visual worlds. Concepts that illustrate the idea include Safari, Jungle, City, Beach, Mountains, Halloween and Christmas.
These are ways of interpreting weather, not a live catalogue of named themes in the product today. A theme does not have to represent a real place. Christmas, for example, is a seasonal visual world, not a weather type and not a location. Halloween is the same kind of idea: a visual interpretation, not a forecast.
Safari as a theme is also different from a safari lodge as a Point of Interest. One is a visual world. The other is a real place.
Can the same weather look different in different Themes?
Yes. That is the point of a theme. Rain in a city interpretation and rain in a jungle interpretation can share the same underlying weather information while looking like different visual worlds.
Can Themes change between day and night?
Yes. WeatherFlo maps current conditions across nine daytime and nine nighttime states. A theme can respond to current weather and to whether it is day or night.
Can Theme work with a real place?
Yes, as separate layers. Place answers where. Theme answers which visual world. Combining them is a design choice, not a requirement. A themed experience does not have to be tied to the user's physical location.
Themes + Events + Brands
A theme can be used together with an event: a festival or seasonal activation interpreted through a particular visual world, still responding to current conditions.
A theme can also be part of a branded experience, where campaign creative is expressed through a visual world rather than only through a logo on generic weather imagery.
In each case the weather information stays real. The theme changes how that weather is seen.

Does a WeatherFlo Theme have to represent a real place?
No. A theme is a visual world. A Point of Interest is a real place. They are different ideas.
Can a theme respond to current weather?

Is Safari a location or a theme?
It can be either, and they are not the same. A safari lodge is a place. A safari theme is a visual world that can interpret weather without being that lodge.
Is Christmas a weather type?
No. Christmas would be a seasonal theme — a visual world — not a forecast and not a weather condition.
