Events

How can weather become part of a digital event experience?

Events happen at a particular place, at a particular time and under real weather conditions.

WeatherFlo creates the possibility for those conditions to influence the visual experience around an event, bringing together weather, location and event-specific content.

Weather changes the context of an event

The same event is not the same experience in different weather. A golf tournament under clear sky, under cloud, or in rain is still that tournament — but the atmosphere around it changes.

WeatherFlo can be designed so that current conditions influence the visual layer around an event. That is a weather-responsive event experience: the event stays the event, while the weather that is actually happening can shape what people see.

This describes a potential application of the platform. It does not imply operational event tooling that is not part of WeatherFlo.

Event vs Point of Interest

Golf course

Point of Interest — the place.

Tournament at the course

Event — what is happening, and when.

A place can exist indefinitely. An event introduces a defined period of context at that place.

Place + Event + Weather

  • Place
  • Event
  • Current weather
  • Experience

An event-specific experience can be connected to a particular location. It can respond to current weather, and it can differ between day and night, because WeatherFlo maps conditions across daytime and nighttime states.

What types of events?

Potential applications include sporting events, tournaments, festivals, destination events, seasonal events and temporary activations. In each case the useful idea is the same: a place, a period, and real weather.

WeatherFlo can support a defined start and end period for event-related content. That is how an event differs from a permanent Point of Interest.

Events + Themes

An event experience can also use a visual theme. The event supplies when and what is happening; a theme would supply a visual world through which the weather is interpreted. Those layers are separate. See themed weather experiences.

Events + Brands

An event experience can include branded content. Brand, place, weather and a campaign window can work together without turning every event into an advertisement. See brands and weather.

Questions

Events, more briefly

Can an event experience respond to current weather?

Yes. WeatherFlo creates the possibility for current conditions to influence the visual around an event. Forecasts remain separate from that cinematic layer.

Can an event have a start and end period?

Yes. That defined period is part of what makes an event different from a lasting Point of Interest.

Can WeatherFlo support sporting events or tournaments?

Those are potential applications: a place, a competition or gathering, and the weather it is actually having. WeatherFlo is not a sports-operations or tournament-management product.

How is an event different from a campaign?

An event is what is happening at a place in a period of time. A campaign is a planned window for branded or themed content. They can overlap, but they are not the same idea.

A place, a moment, and the weather it is having.

WeatherFlo explores how events can sit inside real conditions rather than beside them.
